mike huston recording in a living room
Recording an album was never the original plan. The original plan was to record a song - a cover of the Oasis song "Fade Away" - just to hear what I sounded like combining guitar and vocals I was comfortable singing. When I decided it wasn't terrible and when close friends said the same thing, I started doing more covers and the occasional original song here and there. All of this morphed into the idea that I should do a collection of my own songs and just make an album. I didn't want to do it to become rich or famous, or because I thought I was overly talented with the world deserving to hear me. I wanted to do it because it was an opportunity for a creative outlet as well as a challenge. It also provided an opportunity to have a ton of fun along the way.
The ten songs here were all recorded in my apartment by myself from January through November 2009. A couple of the songs were recorded fully in my living room, but most songs were split between my bathroom and closet, with electric and bass guitar being done in my bedroom. I'm sure my neighbors really loved hearing me play the same guitar part over, and over, and over again.
Thanks to those who listened to some of my very first recordings and gave me the thumbs up and confidence to continue recording songs, and thanks to everyone who provided any sort of inspiration for any of the songs I wrote.
